Rhinoplasty Procedures – Modifying the Look of Your Nose

Rhinoplasty or a nose surgery, as it is more commonly referred to, is a surgical procedure that a lot of people are aware of. However, even those who are thinking of having their noses altered are still in the dark on how exactly rhinoplasty procedures are done.

It actually begins in the operating room where you will be delivered after discussing the process with the people that you are going to entrust yourself into. After this, you will then be given a dose of anesthesia. The kind of anesthesia that will be administered to you will be based upon the time it would take for the surgery to be complete and the degree of difficulty of the procedure that is about to be performed. If you have any existing allergies, the type of anesthesia will also depend on this. Your surgeon and the anesthesiologist will also have a say on it.

Rhinoplasty can be done in two ways. The type of nose surgery that a patient will undergo depends on the ability and the surgical technique of the surgeon performing the procedure. The wishes of the patient will also figure in the kind of rhinoplasty that must be done to his nose. One of the basic approaches is called the internal rhinoplasty. This is done by making a cut from the inside of the nose. In this procedure, the skin is opened up and the work is done without touching or making a cut on the facial skin. Internal rhinoplasty should be done with precision and is only ideal when the work required is minimal and that it can be completed by working from the inside of the nose.

Another approach is called the external rhinoplasty. This kind of surgery requires incisions on the exterior of the nose. This is also called open-tip rhinoplasty where the surgeon would make an incision at the fold of the nose so that there will be no visible scars after the completion of the surgery. External rhinoplasty is often required in cases where massive alteration or operation of the skin is needed.

Rhinoplasty is regarded more of an art rather than its medical purpose. During the procedure, the surgeon performing the operation will constantly consult the photos and notes he has prepared before going into the operating room. He would make sure that the proportion of the outline of the nose is right and that the alterations that he is doing will give him and the patient the desired outcome. He is very careful in making incisions since a tiny mistake that is not noticeable during the operation can make a huge difference in the result when the swelling finally subsides.
