There are a few different types of nose surgery.  One type is known as “open” nose surgery.  In this case the surgeon has more ability to properly adjust the patients nose becuase they can see right into it.  A small cut is made in the position between the notirls, which gives the surgeon the ability to lift that part of the nasal skin off the nose for a better view of the bone and cartilage.  This type of nose surgery does leave a scar, but a good nose doctor will not leave a scar that is visible from a short distance.

Another type of nose surgery is “closed”.  In this case cuts are made on the inside of the nose, which makes it so any scars will be hidden.  This nose job technique is a little more difficult to perform and can sometimes make it impossible for the surgeon to get to the desired areas of the nose and perform the nose job in the best way.

In many cases there are distinct advantages and disadvantages to the different methods of nose surgery.  You’ll want to know what type of nose surgery your doctor performs and which case would be best for your situation.

These two nose job techniques can be used in different kinds of nose surgery.  Augmentation is building out or restructuring of a bent or mishapen nose.  The opposite of that and the most popular kind of nose job is a reduction.

A good plastic surgeon or cosmetic surgeon can usually reshape a nose to just about any shape or style that is desired.  However, small changes in a nose shape can make for huge differences.  That’s why rhinoplasty is one of the most precise kinds of cosmetic surgery.  One tiny millimeter too much or too little, and you can have an awkward and unnatural looking nose.

Again, the most common form of nose surgery is the nose reduction.  Most nose surgeons these days use computer imaging technology to show a patient before and after images of how the surgery should turn out.  Surgeons use the input of the patients to determine how the images turn out.  Before technology made these coputer images available, patients had to trust in their nose surgeons and how they said it would turn out.  The new computer imaging tools can show what every little amount taken off or added to will look like.

There are several different types of nose surgery in practice today.  It’s important to know what kind your surgeon has experience in and what kind is best for your particular procedure.  You can’t have too much information, after all, you don’t want to come out looking like Michael Jackson.
